Covid Cases Updates: Over 1.19 crore

New Delhi: India has now set a new record for daily Covid cases with 1,31,968 cases, bringing the total number of cases to over 1.3 crore. The flood, which was much more severe than the first wave a year ago, has constrained numerous states and forced tight checks.

This is the fourth time in five days that India has disclosed over one lakh new cases. COVID-19 has killed 1,67,64 people in India, with 780 deaths recently. After the United States and Brazil, India is the third most severely affected country.

In his meeting with Chief Ministers yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the importance of creating miniature regulatory zones and broad testing in order to combat the pandemic's second surge.

He stated that states should observe a "tika utsav," or "antibody celebration," between April 11 and 14 to vaccinate the greatest number of qualified recipients.

However, antibody centres in a few states, including the hardest-hit Maharashtra, have been closing early and dismissing patients as supplies run out.

Some areas in Maharashtra have completely ceased immunizations due to a lack of antibody dosages. To cope with the shortage, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai have closed more than 20 immunisation clinics. The state's Home Minister has called for an increase in immunizations. Today, Mumbai reported 8,938 new COVID-19 cases, a decrease from more than 10,000 contaminations each of the previous two days.

In terms of total caseload, Maharashtra trails the southern states of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

Association Health Minister Harsh Vardhan yesterday dismissed as "sham" the "clamour" by specific states about partisanship by the Center, calling it an attempt to conceal their own ineptitude, saying non-BJP governed Maharashtra and Rajasthan ranked among the top three states based on antibody assignment.

Since yesterday, a night time limit has been implemented in Noida, Allahabad, Meerut, and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. Beginning today, the nighttime limit in Bareilly will be enforced. The country's most populous state announced 39 more COVID-19 fatalities on Thursday, bringing the total to 9,003.

In the most notable single-day spike this year, Delhi recorded 7,437 new cases of COVID-19. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister, is among those who have requested that the immunisation drive be extended to other age groups.
